wikipedia
The statue of Jesus Christ the King of the Universe in Świebodzin is a monumental reinforced concrete sculpture erected in 2010 based on a design by Mirosław Patecki. The monument stands 36 meters tall (including its 3-meter gilded crown) and is placed on a 16.5-meter-high mound, bringing its total height to 52.5 meters. Weighing over 440 tons and costing approximately 6 million złoty, the statue was funded through voluntary donations from local parishioners and the American Polonia community. Its form is inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, though it stands two meters taller. Currently, it is the second tallest statue of Jesus in the world by total height, but the figure itself is the tallest. The main initiator of the project was Father Sylwester Zawadzki, who had pursued its realization since 2001. On November 21, 2010, the statue was consecrated by Bishop Stefan Regmunt. It has since become the patron monument of Świebodzin, despite earlier difficulties in obtaining approval for the idea from the Congregation for Divine Worship. Architecturally, the statue is constructed of ferroconcrete, and its 3.5-meter crown is entirely finished in gold leaf. Interestingly, each of the statue’s hands measures 6 meters in length, with a span of 24 meters between the fingertips. The sculpture has not only become a local religious symbol but also a tourist attraction, drawing numerous visitors.
