wikipedia
Goszcza is a glacial lake located in Poland, in the Lubusz Voivodeship, within the Łagów Lakeland area. It covers an area ranging from 48 to 55 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of 20.2 meters. The lake is part of the Jordanowo-Niesulice glacial trough, and the villages of Lubrza and Nowa Wioska are situated along its shores. The name of the lake dates back to 1791, when it first appeared in historical sources as *Gast See*; its current form, "Goszcza," was officially adopted in 1949. The lake serves recreational purposes and is managed by the Regional Water Management Authority in Poznań. Its waters are rich in fish, making it a popular fishing spot, and its ecosystem supports diverse species of plants and animals. The area around the lake features so-called wild beaches and the Nenufar (Water Lily) hiking and cycling trail, which attracts tourists. An interesting local legend tells the story of Lubrzana, a fisherman’s daughter, associated with the "Night of the Water Lilies," which is recounted annually during local celebrations. Despite its charm, Goszcza faces ecological challenges; in recent years, it has been classified as having Class III water quality due to organic pollution. The lake lies within the protected landscape area of the Paklica and Ołobok Trough, highlighting its natural value and the need for environmental conservation.
