Kożuchów, historically known as Freystadt, is a town with a rich history dating back to the 13th century, located in the Lubusz Voivodeship, in Lower Silesia. Its first written mention dates back to 1273, and it was granted town rights around 1291. In the Middle Ages, the town was an important trade center and the capital of a duchy between 1397 and 1467. The architecture of Kożuchów is impressive, featuring historic defensive walls from the 13th and 14th centuries, as well as an urban complex with numerous townhouses, a town hall, and a castle that has served various functions over the centuries. The parish church dedicated to the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in the 13th century, is an example of Gothic style with later Baroque and Renaissance renovations. The town is home to numerous other monuments, including chapels, an Evangelical cemetery, and remnants of a 14th-century town hall. Kożuchów is also a hub of vibrant culture; the "Zamek" Cultural Center organizes events such as the Days of Kożuchów Land, the Henryków Festival, and Cosuchowia Dance, while the "Lubuskie Słoneczko" Folk Ensemble plays an important role in preserving local traditions.
