wikipedia
Lubrza, formerly known as Liebenau, is a village in the Lubusz Voivodeship and the seat of the local municipality, picturesquely situated by the lakes Goszcza, Lubie, and Lubrza. This tourist-oriented village boasts a rich history dating back to its first mentions in 1246, when it was a knightly settlement and held town rights until the 17th century and again between 1857 and 1946. During the Middle Ages, Lubrza flourished due to its location on the trade route from Świebodzin to Gorzów. The village was under the administration of Cistercians from Paradyż, which influenced the development of agriculture and crafts. In the 18th century, after secularization, Lubrza gained local self-government and became a center of lignite production, leading to population growth. In 1890, it reached its highest population count—1,303 residents. Architecturally, it stands out with its Neo-Romanesque Church of St. John the Baptist from 1848 and remnants of a medieval knight's residence. Lubrza also features a Catholic cemetery from the late 19th century, where a few old tombstones have been preserved. The local culture thrives, with the Municipal Cultural Center organizing various events such as the Night of Water Lilies or the Constitution of May 3rd Celebration. The village also has its own Municipal Public Library and Public Primary School, institutions deeply involved in community life. Interestingly, the region has developed beautiful tourist trails over the years, and the local fauna, flora, and lakes are major attractions for visitors. Known for its scenic byways and picturesque landscapes, Lubrza is an ideal destination not only for recreation but also for exploring regional history and culture.
