Hotel Mercure Gdańsk Stare Miasto, formerly known as Hotel Hevelius, is the tallest hotel in Gdańsk, located in the Old Town. The property is owned by the Orbis Hotel Group, and its skyscraper offers panoramic views of Gdańsk's historic buildings and the Gdańsk Bay. The hotel has 17 floors and 281 rooms, including 78 single rooms, 197 double rooms, and 6 suites. The history of the hotel dates back to the 1980s, when during the events at the Gdańsk Shipyard, it hosted foreign journalists covering the shipyard workers' protests. The building underwent a modernization, changing its original yellow facade to a modern silver-steel one. It is worth noting that in the interwar period, there was another hotel with the same name in Gdańsk, located at Pfefferstadt 53. Hotel Mercure Gdańsk Stare Miasto has also been immortalized in culture, gaining popularity as the setting for the TV series "Znaki szczególne" directed by Roman Załuski, where the newly constructed building was portrayed as the future home of Engineer Zawada. This combination of modern architecture and rich history makes the hotel a significant landmark on the map of Gdańsk.
