Gdynia-Śródmieście Deanery

The Gdynia Śródmieście Deanery is one of the 24 deaneries of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk, encompassing the area of Gdynia's districts such as Śródmieście, Witomino, Chwarzno-Wiczlino, and Wzgórze Św. Maksymiliana. The deanery is headed by Monsignor Edmund Skalski, Ph.D., the parish priest of the Parish of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland, who has held this position since November 1, 2014. The deanery consists of nine parishes, reflecting the strong presence of the Catholic Church in this part of Gdynia. Gdynia Śródmieście, as the central part of the city, is characterized by interesting architectural solutions where modernism intertwines with elements of pre-war style. The area features numerous historic sites, including religious buildings that attract both tourists and locals. Culturally, the deanery is a hub for diverse local events, showcasing the connection of residents to Catholic traditions as well as their openness to new initiatives. Historically, Gdynia has developed dynamically since the interwar period, and today it is one of the most important centers in Poland, which also influences the religious life in the region. It is also worth noting the neighboring deaneries, such as Gdynia Orłowo, Gdynia Oksywie, and Gdynia Chylonia, which together form a diverse network of parish communities in Gdynia. An interesting fact is that the Gdynia Śródmieście Deanery plays a significant role in local social and cultural life by organizing various events that integrate residents and promote Christian values.
