Michałowice is a rural commune in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Pruszków County, with its seat located in the village of Reguły, where a new communal office has been operating since 2013. The administrative history of the commune dates back to 1952, when it was known as the Skorosze Commune. The commune encompasses several localities, including Granica, Komorów, Nowa Wieś, Opacz-Kolonia, and Pęcice. In the 1970s, the commune's seat was located in Opacz, and until the end of 2012, it was in Michałowice, which was also previously known as Michałowice-Osiedle. The commune covers an area of 34.73 km², of which 61.8% is agricultural land, 8.4% is forested, and 25.2% is built-up areas. In 2011, the commune was inhabited by 16,918 people, and by 2019, this number had increased to 18,321. The Michałowice Commune is home to the Gerda Sokołów helicopter landing site, making it a location of significance for air transport. Interestingly, the commune has experienced attempts at secession by some of its localities, such as Komorów, which sought to establish its own commune. In 2007, the Michałowice Commune achieved a record voter turnout of 73.67%, which was higher than that of Warsaw. The Michałowice Commune borders the communes of Brwinów, Nadarzyn, and Pruszków, as well as the capital city of Warsaw, and is a member of the Union of Polish Towns (Unia Miasteczek Polskich), highlighting its active role in local administration and cooperation.
