Mielec is a city in southeastern Poland, located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, with a rich history dating back to the 13th century. It was granted town rights in 1470 and came under Austrian partition in 1772. The city gained significance as an industrial center, particularly due to the State Aviation Plants established as part of the Central Industrial Region. Mielec is characterized by numerous historical landmarks, including the Basilica of St. Matthew from 1526, several cemeteries, and early 20th-century villas. As a cultural hub, Mielec has many institutions promoting culture, such as the Municipal Cultural Center and the Regional Museum, which houses a valuable collection of cameras. The city hosts numerous cultural events, including the International Music Festival. Mielec is also known for its sports traditions; the football team Stal Mielec twice won the Polish Championship title, and local sports clubs achieve success at various competition levels. An interesting fact is that Mielec was the first city in the General Government declared "Judenrein" during World War II, and after the war, the post-war aviation factory had a huge impact on the region's development. Furthermore, today the city has a well-developed transport network, including an airport and railway, which support its economic growth. Mielec has numerous housing estates and active social life, with many organizations and sports clubs, as well as partnerships with cities across Europe.
