wikipedia
Nietulisko Duże, formerly known as Nietulisko Wielkie, is a village located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in the Ostrowiec County, within the administrative district of Kunów. Its history dates back to at least 1368, when it was owned by the bishops of Kraków. In the 16th century, local quarries began extracting stone, and in the 19th century, the village gained importance due to industrialization. A rolling mill built between 1834 and 1846, as part of a government industrial district, gained renown and awards, including at the Paris Exhibition in 1846. Thanks to modernizations, the mill was able to produce significant quantities of iron products, but it was ultimately destroyed by a flood in 1903, leading to its closure in 1905. The industrial structures and water system are now listed as historical monuments. Nietulisko Duże is surrounded by natural beauty, with Mesozoic sedimentary rocks and a rich biocenosis, home to various species of animals and plants, some of which are protected. The village also holds cultural significance, with many individuals associated with its history, including soldiers, politicians, and engineers. Interestingly, an early Slavic burial site was discovered in Nietulisko, further highlighting the area's historical richness. In 2023, the Kunów municipality began efforts to establish an open-air museum at the former industrial site, which may help renew interest in this unique village.
