Old Polesie

Stare Polesie is a residential district in central Łódź, primarily composed of tenement houses and forming the larger part of an administrative unit of the same name. Its history dates back to when the area was known as the Wiązowa district, and its current name is derived from its connection to the oldest part of the former Polesie district. The boundaries of the district are marked by Włókniarzy Avenue to the west, Ogrodowa Street to the north, Gdańska and Wólczańska Streets to the east, and Mickiewicza Avenue to the south. Tenement houses dominate Stare Polesie, although its western edge features the Mikołaj Kopernik subdistrict with large-panel high-rises. The area is enlivened by various revitalization projects, such as "Lipowa odNowa," which encourage residents to collaborate with city authorities and enhance the quality of life in the neighborhood. Cultural events, including "Czerwcówki" and "Majówki Staropoleskie," are held in Stare Polesie, fostering community integration.
