Opoczno

Opoczno is an urban-rural municipality located in the Łódź Voivodeship, within the Opoczno County, with its seat in the town of Opoczno. The change in administrative affiliation took place between 1975 and 1998, when the municipality was part of the Piotrków Voivodeship. The area of the municipality is 190.64 km², of which as much as 69% is agricultural land and 19% is forest land. Opoczno constitutes 18.33% of the entire area of Opoczno County. The municipality is characterized by a diversity of villages, including Adamów, Antoniów, Bukowiec Opoczyński, and Wola Załężna, as well as localities without village status, such as Brzuśnia or Zameczek. According to data from the end of 2007, the municipality was inhabited by 35,461 people, but by the end of 2019, this number had dropped to 34,108 residents, indicating a population decline. It is also worth noting the architectural aspects of the municipality and the town of Opoczno, which is known for its numerous historical monuments, such as the 18th-century parish church and buildings related to ceramic craftsmanship. The municipality has rich cultural traditions associated with crafts, especially pottery production, which constitutes an important historical heritage of the region. Opoczno, as a place with a rich historical background, can boast numerous cultural events and festivals that integrate residents and promote local traditions. An interesting fact is that during the interwar period and the Polish People's Republic, the seat of the municipality was called Bukowiec, which reflects the changing history of the region. The municipality is surrounded by neighboring municipalities, such as Białaczów, Drzewica, and Gielniów, which fosters local cooperation and cultural exchange between them.
