wikipedia
The Regional Museum in Opoczno, housed in a 14th-century castle built by Casimir the Great, is an institution dedicated to promoting the rich culture of the Opoczno region. Established on January 1, 1976, the museum collects a wide range of exhibits related to folklore, folk handicrafts, and rural architecture, illustrating the life and traditions of the local community. The museum received its first exhibits from the Society of Friends of the Opoczno Land Museum, and over time, it has enriched its collections with materials from the National Museums in Warsaw and Poznań, as well as valuable donations from local residents and the "Opocznianka" Folk Handicraft Cooperative. The museum also hosts the Historical Reenactment Group named after the AK "Henryk" Aviation Unit, which adds educational and reenactment value. The museum comprises various departments, such as Ethnography, Archeology and Numismatics, and History, allowing for comprehensive research and presentation of the region's material and social culture. The museum features several permanent exhibitions, including "From the History of the Opoczno Land," which showcases the region's history from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, and an exhibition dedicated to World War II, highlighting the September Campaign of 1939 and partisan activities. A notable attraction is the folk sculpture display, featuring works by local artists, as well as a reconstruction of a traditional Opoczno cottage, illustrating the traditional way of life of the inhabitants. Through various educational activities and temporary exhibitions, the Regional Museum in Opoczno plays a vital role in preserving local history and culture.
