wikipedia
Southern Śródmieście is an area within the Śródmieście district of Warsaw, with clearly defined boundaries: to the north by Jerusalem Avenue (Aleje Jerozolimskie), to the west by Chałubińskiego Street and Independence Avenue (aleja Niepodległości), to the south by Stefan Batorego Street, Boya-Żeleńskiego Street, and Szucha Avenue, and to the east by Ujazdowskie Avenue, Piękna Street, and Rozbrat Street. This area differs from Northern Śródmieście primarily due to its preserved late 19th and early 20th-century architecture, making it an attractive destination for architecture enthusiasts. Within its boundaries, one can find many significant structures, such as the MDM housing estate and the Latawiec estate, which reflect the ideology and architectural style of that era. A notable landmark is Savior Square (Plac Zbawiciela), which, along with the Warsaw University of Technology and Three Cross Square (Plac Trzech Krzyży), home to the Church of St. Alexander, serves as a central hub of social life. Southern Śródmieście is also home to numerous theaters, including the Contemporary Theatre (Teatr Współczesny), the Roma Musical Theatre, the Rozmaitości Theatre, and the Polonia Theatre, creating a vibrant cultural scene. The Politechnika metro station plays a key role in transportation, providing easy access to this dynamic part of the city. Interestingly, despite wartime destruction, the area has retained many original architectural details, making it a living witness to Warsaw's history.
