wikipedia
St. Elizabeth's Church in Gdańsk is a historic rectoral church located within the parish of St. Brigid in the Archdiocese of Gdańsk. Built in the Gothic style, it features a single nave, one tower, a star-shaped chancel, and a side chapel. The history of the church began in 1393–1394 when a chapel was added to an existing poorhouse. The construction of the church was completed in 1417, and over the years it underwent several transformations, including coming under the control of the Reformed Evangelicals in 1557. In 1844, it was sold to the military and served as a garrison church until 1945, which significantly limited its religious activities. After a fire in March 1945 caused by Soviet Army soldiers, the church was severely damaged. Reconstruction was undertaken by the Pallottine priests, and the church reopened in 1947. The original organ, built by Andreas Hildebrandt, was destroyed, and a new one with 15 voices was installed in 1957. The church underwent renovation in 1993, acquiring a new interior design. Interestingly, the original spire of the tower was not rebuilt after 1945 and was replaced with a small roof. St. Elizabeth's Church is not only an important landmark in Gdańsk but also a site of significant historical and cultural value, reflecting the turbulent history of the city.
