The Parish of St. Michael the Archangel in Prudnik is a Roman Catholic parish founded in 1279. It is located in the Diocese of Opole, within the Prudnik Deanery. The main church is the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, and in addition to it, the parish also includes the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the Church of St. Joseph in Prudnik-Las, and the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Dębowiec. The history of the parish is rich and full of twists and turns; in 1629, by agreement, the parish came under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Wrocław, and in 1738 the Prudnik Archpresbyterate was established. Architecturally, Prudnik and its surroundings are characterized by a mix of styles, and the parish buildings are examples of local traditions and craftsmanship. After the Silesian Wars, the parish found itself in Prussia, and in 1945, after World War II, it was incorporated into Poland. From 1946 to 1999, the parish was served by Dominican Fathers, and since 1999, it has been served by diocesan priests. The parish had 17,371 faithful in 1944, and at the beginning of 1946, it had 10,674. Interestingly, according to the decision of the Apostolic Administrator in 1948, the village of Łąka Prudnicka was incorporated into the parish. The parish territory includes many streets of Prudnik, as well as the village of Dębowiec and the settlement of Chocim. The parish is an important center of social and cultural life in the region, organizing numerous religious and cultural events.
