Szprotawa Commune, with its seat in the town of the same name, is located in the Lubusz Voivodeship, within Żagań County. From 1975 to 1998, it was administratively part of the former Zielona Góra Voivodeship. The commune covers an area of 232.31 km², of which 55% is agricultural land and 33% is forest land, primarily within the Lower Silesian Wilderness. The commune is inhabited by approximately 22,500 people (as of February 2009), and its demographic structure includes diverse age groups.
Szprotawa also boasts a rich natural heritage, which includes the Buczyna Szprotawska Nature Reserve, established to protect the diversity of forest ecosystems and valuable species of plants and animals. In 2019, the Potok Sucha Landscape and Nature Complex was created, reflecting the commitment to environmental conservation. In 2021, in partnership with the Szprotawa Forest District, a nature and forest educational trail with a teaching point by the stream was implemented, promoting ecological education.
Additionally, since 2007, the "Słowiański Park" Landscape and Nature Complex has been located within the commune. Szprotawa borders several other communes, such as Bolesławiec, Gromadka, and Żagań, highlighting its importance in the regional context. Szprotawa combines natural richness with tourism potential, making it an interesting destination in terms of architecture, culture, and history.
