The Ćmielów Living Museum of Porcelain

The Living Museum of Porcelain in Ćmielów, opened in May 2005, is a unique institution located within the private AS Ćmielów Porcelain Factory, forming part of the Center for Artistic Porcelain. The museum combines the rich history of pottery and porcelain production with modern artistic techniques, offering a variety of exhibits and attractions. Among these is a pottery workshop that introduces visitors to the history of local craftsmanship, and a factory hall featuring an impressive 22-meter pottery kiln that was in operation until recently. There is also an old porcelain firing kiln, which now houses a multimedia room showing a film about porcelain production, recorded in the very heart of the facility. The Marble Hall is home to a collection of contemporary porcelain sculptures from the 1950s and 1960s, created by renowned artists such as Lubomir Tomaszewski and Henryk Jędrasiak. Additionally, the museum has a retail outlet where visitors can purchase unique porcelain items. As part of the Center, since 2013, the Gallery of Old Porcelain and the van Rij Gallery have also been accessible, showcasing works by young artists. The museum actively engages visitors by offering porcelain workshops, where participants can paint cups or sculpt roses from porcelain paste under the guidance of an experienced instructor. An interesting highlight is the pink porcelain, created based on a pre-war recipe by Bronisław Kryński, and the world’s unique emerald porcelain, patented by Adam Spała, which has been on display since 2021. The museum offers year-round guided tours for groups of 4 to 25 people, with an admission fee, making it an appealing destination for tourists, art enthusiasts, and history lovers alike. The Living Museum of Porcelain in Ćmielów blends industrial architecture with modern design, showcasing the cultural heritage of the region and unique achievements in the field of artistic craftsmanship.
