The Tricity Landscape Park, established on May 3, 1979, is a picturesque area covering 19,930 hectares located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, stretching primarily across the moraine plateau of the Kashubian Lake District. The park encompasses forested areas, which make up 90% of its surface, along with agricultural habitats in several nearby villages. Its territory includes parts of the cities of Gdynia, Rumia, Szemud, and partially Sopot and Gdańsk. Most of the forests are managed for economic purposes by the Gdańsk Forest District, and their biodiversity is impressive, hosting around 850 species of vascular plants, many of which are protected. Within the park, one can encounter exceptional trees, including a pedunculate oak estimated to be over 350 years old. The fauna, representing typical species of the Polish Lowlands, includes wild mammals, birds, and amphibians. This area is not only valuable for its natural features but also for its cultural heritage, with the historic Wejherowo Calvary being one of its most treasured sites. Nature conservation in the park is implemented through existing reserves and planned protected areas, highlighting its ecological importance. The Tricity Landscape Park also stands out for its extensive network of hiking and cycling trails, making it an excellent destination for active recreation, and its diverse landscape captivates both residents and tourists alike.
