The Wleń Commune, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, is characterized by rich natural and cultural potential. Within its area lies the Góra Zamkowa Nature Reserve, which protects a complex of oak-hornbeam forests as well as valuable plant species and monuments of material culture. The commune also includes the Bóbr Valley Landscape Park and is part of the more extensive Natura 2000 area – the Bóbr Refuge. Within the commune, there are fragments of two additional Natura 2000 refuges: Ostrzyca Proboszczowicka and Góra Wapienna. Wleń is also distinguished by six natural monuments, including the yew tree in Bystrzyca, the second oldest tree of this species in Poland. The commune covers an area of 86 km², of which 55% is agricultural land and 39% is forest land, highlighting its natural resources. The Wleń Commune has a rich structure of villages, including Bystrzyca, Pilchowice, and Radomice, with its seat in the town of Wleń. The history of the commune dates back to before 1998 when it was part of the Jelenia Góra Voivodeship. In 2004, the commune had 4,647 inhabitants, and by 2020, this number had decreased to 4,237, which may indicate the demographic dynamics of the region. Neighboring communes, such as Jeżów Sudecki, Lwówek Śląski, and Pielgrzymka, contribute to the local character of this area.
