wikipedia
The Chełmża Deanery is one of the 24 Roman Catholic deaneries of the Diocese of Toruń. Its history dates back to the times when it was part of the Diocese of Chełmno, based in Pelplin. After the establishment of the Diocese of Toruń by Pope John Paul II on March 25, 1992, the Chełmża Deanery underwent a structural reorganization, which was finalized on December 2, 2001, under the leadership of Toruń Bishop Andrzej Suski. The deanery includes numerous parishes that reflect the richness of Catholic tradition in the region. Architecturally, the parishes are often represented by historic churches that combine various architectural styles, from Gothic to Baroque, showcasing the development of sacred art in the area. Contemporary architecture also finds its place, striving to harmonize with historical elements. Culturally, the Chełmża Deanery is a place where local traditions are nurtured, and various religious events and festivals provide residents and tourists with opportunities to become more familiar with the history and customs of the region. Interestingly, the city of Chełmża itself also has its roots in the Middle Ages, making it an interesting point on the tourist map of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. Neighboring deaneries, such as Bierzgłowo, Chełmno, and Toruń, also contribute to the rich spiritual and cultural life of the region through collaborations and joint events. The entire structure of the deanery and its parishes reflects the socio-religious ties that are an essential part of the lives of the local residents.
