Wielkie Oczy is a rural municipality located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, in the Lubaczów district, near the border with Ukraine. The municipality has a rich history dating back to the times of the Second Polish Republic, when it belonged to the Jaworów district in the Lwów Voivodeship. On October 1, 1929, it was granted urban financial privileges, and on August 1, 1934, it was transformed into a collective municipality, encompassing a number of rural localities such as Boża Wola, Czaplaki, and Kobylnice. After World War II, the municipality was divided by the new state border, with the majority of its territory remaining in Poland. The eastern parts of the municipality, as well as some villages, were incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR. Currently, the municipality covers an area of 146.49 km², with agricultural land accounting for 44% and forests for 45%. The municipality also has a diverse demographic structure, with a population of 3,818 according to 2019 data. The main localities include Bihale, Kobylnica Ruska, Kobylnica Wołoska, Łukawiec, and Wielkie Oczy, which serves as the municipal seat. Nearby municipalities include Lubaczów and Radymno. This region represents an interesting blend of history, culture, and rural architecture, making it a place of significant local importance.
