wikipedia
The Iława – Zachód Deanery is one of the twenty deaneries in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Elbląg, encompassing six parishes: the Parish of St. John of Nepomuk and Our Lady of the Rosary in Biskupiec, the Parish of St. Brother Albert in Iława, the Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Karaś, the Parish of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Laseczno, the Parish of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Piotrowice, and the Parish of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Ząbrowo. Established in 2000 by Elbląg Bishop Jan Styrna, the deanery was formed through the division of the previously existing Iława Deanery. Architecturally, the parishes within the deanery showcase a variety of building styles, ranging from classical churches to modern religious structures, reflecting the broad spectrum of traditions and cultural influences in the region. Culturally, the deanery serves as a vital center of religious and social life, hosting numerous events that attract both the faithful and tourists. Elements such as local festivals, blessings, and pilgrimages are integral to the local identity, highlighting both the spiritual and social significance of the parishes. Interestingly, neighboring deaneries like Iława – Wschód, Kurzętnik, and Łasin share important cultural and historical ties with Iława, creating a cohesive mosaic of Roman Catholic tradition in this part of Poland. The region boasts a rich history, marked by political and social changes, which have significantly influenced the development of local religious communities.
