The rural commune of Iława is located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within Iława County, and its administrative seat is the town of Iława. Between 1975 and 1998, the commune was part of the Olsztyn Voivodeship. According to data from December 31, 2019, the commune had a population of 12,988, indicating a slight increase compared to 2004, when it was home to 11,672 people. The commune covers an area of 423.55 km², of which 42% is agricultural land and another 42% is forested. The commune is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, including the Iława Lake District Landscape Park and numerous nature reserves, such as Lake Gaudy and Lake Karaś, known for their rich fauna and flora. The forests in the region consist mainly of pines, beeches, and mixed trees, and the area is a habitat for many rare and protected plant species, such as the daphne mezereum and the martagon lily.
