wikipedia
The Jasielsko-Krośnieńska Basin is a geographical mesoregion in southeastern Poland, located within the Central Beskid Foothills. It forms a broad depression with elevations ranging from 240 to 350 meters above sea level, surrounded by hills and other basins. The region features fertile soils, which favor agricultural development, and the basin itself has been an important settlement area since the early Middle Ages. The main cities in the region include Krosno, Jasło, Biecz, and Gorlice, as well as health resorts such as Iwonicz-Zdrój and Rymanów-Zdrój. The Jasielsko-Krośnieńska Basin holds significant transportation importance, and the Krosno Functional Urban Area has over 115,000 inhabitants, making it one of the more densely populated areas in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The city of Krosno serves as the commercial and industrial hub of the region and is also the cradle of the global oil industry. In 1854, the world's first oil mine was established in Bóbrka near Krosno, marking a pivotal moment in industrial history. The basin is also known for its numerous transportation routes and tourist attractions, including open-air museums in Sanok and Bóbrka, which showcase the local culture and history of the region.
