The Lower Tanew Valley (PLH060097) is a proposed Special Area of Conservation (SAC) covering 8,518.01 hectares, playing a key role in preserving biodiversity in Poland. Located in the Lublin and Podkarpackie voivodeships, it encompasses the Tanew River valley from the mouth of the Wirowa River to the San River, as well as the lower section of the Wirowa itself. The area is distinguished by its richness of 19 habitat types listed in Annex I of the Habitats Directive, including inland dunes, oxbow lakes, peat bogs, and pine forests. The fauna of the valley includes numerous species from Annex II, such as the beaver, otter, gray wolf, lynx, and various species of amphibians and fish. This area is not only ecologically significant but also holds considerable cultural and historical value, being part of the rich regional tradition of the Vistula region. It is worth adding that the Tanew Valley is also an ideal spot for birdwatching and tourism, attracting both scientists and nature enthusiasts. An interesting fact is that the area is home to rare species of butterflies and other insects, making it not only a nature reserve but also a center for biodiversity research. The Lower Tanew Valley is a true natural treasure that deserves special protection and study.
