wikipedia
Prusiek is a village located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, known for its rich history dating back to ancient times. Archaeological excavations have revealed traces of the Przeworsk culture from the 2nd century AD, making Prusiek an important site for research on early settlers in the region. The first written records of the village date back to the 14th century, and the etymology of its name suggests a defensive character. The village was part of the defensive system of Sanok and was likely established as a service settlement for the stronghold accessible at that time. Prusiek is home to two Roman Catholic churches: an old one built between 1912 and 1920, and a new one constructed from 1994 to 1996. The village also has a long agricultural tradition, with the largest farm covering 10 hectares in 2006, and one of the oldest rural housewives' associations in the region, active since 1920. Prusiek was the site of tragic events between 1945 and 1946, during Polish-Ukrainian tensions and attacks by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. These incidents resulted in numerous casualties and the destruction of many farms. Despite these sorrowful chapters in its history, Prusiek is also a source of local legends and memories of the heroism of its inhabitants, such as the Pyrcak family, who provided support to Jews during the Holocaust. An interesting fact is that Stanisław, Stefania, and Michał Pyrcak were honored with the title of Righteous Among the Nations. Despite its dramatic heritage, Prusiek remains a place rich in culture and regional tradition.
