St. Nicholas Church in Lubaczów

The Church of St. Nicholas in Lubaczów, built in 1883, stands out for its eclectic architectural style. It was constructed as a masonry church based on the plan of a Latin cross, with its central feature being the dome located at the intersection of the naves. The current iconostasis of the church originates from the former Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Niemstów, highlighting the rich religious and cultural context of this site. Historically, the iconostasis, which can be admired in the current church, has its roots in the 18th century. It was created for the monastery church in Szczepłoty near Krakowiec and dates back to the 1680s. After the monastery was dissolved in 1788, it was first moved to the wooden Church of St. Nicholas and later to the current masonry version. Interestingly, in 1979, the iconostasis was transferred to the Museum in Lubaczów, contributing to its preservation and popularity among visitors. The church and its venerated figure of St. Nicholas hold great significance in the local community, serving as an important element of the region's cultural heritage. The architecture and history of this place attract not only the faithful but also tourists and art enthusiasts, making the church a significant point on the cultural map of Lubaczów.
