wikipedia
The Tarnów Plateau is a physiographic mesoregion located in southern Poland, within the Sandomierz Basin. Its boundaries are defined by the Vistula Lowland to the north and west, the Lower Wisłoka Valley to the east, and the Ciężkowickie Foothills and a short section of the Rożnów Foothills to the south. It features a plateau landscape with an erosional-denudational terrain, dotted with hills at elevations of 200–260 meters above sea level. The region has its origins in Miocene marine sediments, overlain by Quaternary clays and sands. The soils of the Tarnów Plateau are relatively poor, yet the area is intensively used for agriculture, highlighting its suitability for cultivation. The plateau also includes forested areas, adding to its ecological value. Tarnów, the region's main city and the source of its name, is a town rich in historical and cultural heritage, attracting tourists with its architecture and cultural events. In Tarnów, visitors can explore numerous monuments, such as the cathedral, the town hall, and historic townhouses, reflecting influences from various eras. Notable events like the Festival of Early Music underscore the region's cultural diversity. Thus, the Tarnów Plateau is not only an area of natural significance but also a place steeped in history and culture, making it an interesting destination on the map of Poland. Despite its modest soil resources, the region successfully develops agriculture and attracts nature and history enthusiasts alike.
