wikipedia
The Tenczyn Ridge is a picturesque physiographic mesoregion located southwest of Kraków, covering an area of approximately 270 km². It is characterized by a complex geological structure, dominated by Upper Jurassic limestones, which also expose older Devonian, Carboniferous, and Permian volcanic rocks. The highest point of the ridge is Góra Zamkowa (411 meters above sea level), and the region is also known for its isolated horsts, such as the Sowińce Range. The area is heavily forested, contributing to its scenic appeal, and is partly protected within the Tenczyński and Rudniański Landscape Parks. Outstanding tourist attractions include the ruins of Tenczyn Castle in Rudno, the ruins of Lipowiec Castle, the Baroque Bernardine monastery complex in Alwernia, and the Nadwiślański Ethnographic Park. The region is vibrant culturally, and Alwernia is also home to the Firefighting Museum, the oldest of its kind in Poland. The Tenczyn Ridge features numerous nature reserves, such as Zimny Dół and the Mnikowska Valley. From an economic perspective, the area has active quarries and a historic hard coal mine. It is well-connected, with the A4 highway and a local railway line running through it. It is also worth noting that the landscape includes interesting geological formations, such as Skała Kmity. The Tenczyn Ridge is a place that combines natural beauty with rich history and culture, attracting tourists seeking both adventure and knowledge about the region.
