wikipedia
Wieluń County, located in the Łódź Voivodeship, was established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform, with the town of Wieluń serving as its seat. Its history dates back to the 14th century when the county was formed within the historical Land of Rudy, also known as the Land of Wieluń. Over the centuries, the county's borders changed, and during World War II, it was incorporated into the Third Reich. After the war, the county administration was restored, but in 1975, Wieluń County was dissolved, and its area was divided between the Sieradz and Częstochowa voivodeships. In 1999, the county was reinstated. It includes both towns and municipalities, and its demographics indicate a population of approximately 76,000. The county's economy is partly based on rich lignite deposits, with extraction planned for the years 2025–2045. Transportation in the county is well-developed, with a network of national and regional roads, as well as railway connections. In 2017, the northern bypass of Wieluń was opened, significantly improving traffic flow. The county engages in international cooperation with towns in Croatia and Germany, fostering cultural and economic exchange. It is also worth noting that the S8 expressway runs through the county, enhancing its accessibility. An interesting fact is the existence of the Wieluń Local Railway, which operated until the late 1980s. With its rich history and diversity, Wieluń County is an interesting place from both a tourist and cultural perspective.
