Zgierz County, established in 1999 in the Łódź Voivodeship, has its seat in the city of Zgierz and covers an area of 855.18 km², with a population of 166,154 as of 2020. A significant portion of the area consists of agricultural land (66%) and forests (19%). The county includes urban municipalities (Głowno, Ozorków, Zgierz) as well as urban-rural and rural communes. The region is home to numerous historical monuments, including wooden churches with rich histories, such as the 15th-century Church of St. Adalbert in Mąkolice. The architecture of the county blends Neo-Gothic and Baroque styles, as seen in both Mariavite and Roman Catholic churches. Among its notable features are a considerable number of retail and service points (around 1,700) and nearly 100 schools. The county boasts a well-developed transportation network, including the A1 and A2 motorways and numerous national roads, which support its economic growth.
