Brodnica Landscape Park

Brodnicki Park Krajobrazowy (Brodnica Landscape Park), established in 1985, is the 25th landscape park in Poland. It is located in the central and southern parts of the Brodnica Lakeland, spanning areas of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian and Warmian-Masurian voivodeships. The park is distinguished by its rich terrain shaped during the Baltic glaciation, an international system of three post-glacial troughs, numerous lakes, and peat bogs, which cover 8% of its area. Across its 16,685 hectares, there are 58 lakes, including Wielkie Partęczyny and Zbiczno. Lowland peat bogs, particularly valuable from a nature conservation perspective, form the second key ecosystem in the park. Forests cover 40% of the area, dominated by Scots pine, alongside oak, alder, beech, and other species. The rich flora includes many rare plants, such as lily of the valley, while deciduous forests are dominated by oaks and hornbeams. The park also hosts numerous nature reserves, including Bachotek and Okonek, which protect valuable habitats and ecosystems. Brodnicki Park Krajobrazowy is also rich in cultural heritage, with elements visible in numerous monuments such as early medieval strongholds, palace complexes in places like Sumowo and Tomki, and traditional rural architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries. These historical sites are diverse and reflect local traditions and the region's history, making them interesting destinations for tourists. An extremely important aspect is that the park protects not only natural resources but also cultural ones, enriching its appeal and attracting both nature and history enthusiasts. For visitors, the park offers picturesque views, unique ecosystems, and numerous tourist trails, making it a popular recreational destination. It is also worth noting that Brodnicki Park Krajobrazowy, with its natural and cultural diversity, is an example of the synergy between environmental protection and the preservation of cultural heritage.
