Grunwald was an administrative district of Poznań, existing from 1954 to 1990, covering an area of 36.81 km², which accounted for 14.08% of the city's total area. The boundaries of the district, marked to the north by Bukowska Street and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Street, included areas such as Łazarz, Junikowo, Marcelin, and the Kwiatowe Housing Estate, which were once part of Plewiska, a separate locality. In 2011, it was inhabited by 120,158 people. Architecturally, Grunwald was characterized by a diversity of buildings, ranging from 19th-century tenement houses in Łazarz to post-war housing estates, with a predominance of single-family homes in the west. It is worth noting the eclectic architecture in the area of Matejki and Małeckiego Streets, as well as the presence of industrial facilities such as Kimball Electronics Poland and GlaxoSmithKline. In Junikowo, there is Poznań's largest municipal cemetery, surrounded by greenery, creating a local oasis. From a historical perspective, Grunwald was established as a result of an administrative division in 1954, and in 1987, part of the village of Plewiska was incorporated into the district. The culture of Grunwald was shaped by diverse communities and institutions. After 1990, the former districts were abolished, and their boundaries were repurposed for organizing the work of the city hall, adding an interesting context to the history of Poznań.
