wikipedia
Toruń County, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, was established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform, with its seat in the town of Chełmża. The county includes rural municipalities such as Lubicz, Obrowo, Zławieś Wielka, and others, covering an area of 884 km². The county boasts a rich historical heritage, with the original Toruń County established as early as 1807. During the initial administrative changes after World War I, Toruń County came under Polish administration, and its organizational structure underwent multiple changes in the 20th century, including during World War II, when it was incorporated into the Third Reich. After the war, the county was reestablished, only to be abolished in 1975 in favor of the Toruń Voivodeship, before being restored in 1999. Toruń County is proud of its numerous architectural monuments, including Gothic churches such as those in Bierzgłowo, Chełmża, and Dźwierzno, as well as interesting palace complexes like the Szpilowski Palace in Nawra and the palace in Turzno. The region also features ruins of a Teutonic castle and wooden churches. Local culture revolves around traditional crafts and historical events that have shaped the region's identity. Toruń County also has a well-developed transportation network, served by both road and rail carriers, facilitating access to tourist attractions. It is worth emphasizing that numerous local media operate within the county, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the region's culture. The long history and preserved monuments make Toruń County an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers seeking traces of history in Poland.
