wikipedia
The Bukowskie Foothills is a physiographic mesoregion in southeastern Poland, characterized by a belt of hills and basins with elevations ranging from 300 to 500 meters above sea level. This region stretches between the Jasło-Krosno Basin and the Low Beskids, intersected by the valleys of the upper Wisłok and Osława rivers. Traces of historical settlement date back to ancient times, with archaeological findings from the Przeworsk culture, and the area has witnessed significant military events, particularly during World War I and the Dukla Pass Operation in 1944. The architecture is dominated by remnants of manor and defensive structures, such as the castles in Sobień, Lesko, and Sanok, as well as other fortifications. The Bukowskie Foothills is one of the oldest centers of oil mining, existing before 1884. The region's culture was diverse, best illustrated by the presence of the Lemkos and Pogórzanie, who spoke Sanok dialects. Today, the area attracts tourists with its hiking and cycling trails, as well as organized events like the National Simmental Cattle Exhibition. Among its natural attractions are nature reserves and landscape parks, including the Jaśliski Landscape Park. The Bukowskie Foothills is also an area with active agritourism, which supports the development of the local economy.
