Zagórz is an urban-rural municipality located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, within the Sanok County, with its seat in the town of Zagórz. The history of the municipality dates back to February 1, 1977, when it was established by separating several villages from the Tarnawa Górna municipality and incorporating parts of other administrative units. The municipality covers an area of 160.05 km², and according to data from the end of 2017, it was inhabited by 13,099 people. In terms of land use, agricultural areas account for 45%, while forests make up 44%, highlighting the region's natural wealth. The municipality includes numerous villages such as Czaszyn, Łukowe, Olchowa, and Tarnawa Górna, as well as non-existent settlements like Choceń and Sukowate. The municipality has partner cities, including Medzilaborce and Schodnica, underscoring its openness to international cooperation. An honor for the municipality is the title of Honorary Citizen, which was awarded in 1992 to, among others, Jerzy Osiatyński and Artur Balazs for the implementation of gas infrastructure. In 1999, this title was bestowed upon Pope John Paul II. Zagórz, as a place with rich cultural and architectural history, offers numerous attractions and opportunities for relaxation in a picturesque natural setting, making it an interesting destination on the map of Podkarpacie. The region holds significant cultural value, with traditions tied to the local population and customs.
