In a historical context, the Bukowsko Commune has a rich and difficult history; in 1898, it had 25,642 inhabitants. After World War II, it was the site of brutal attacks by the UPA, which burned down many houses, dramatically affecting the region's demographics. As a result of these events, a significant portion of the inhabitants left the commune. An interesting fact is the wind farm under construction since 2009 on Wyszylas Mountain. The commune borders the communes of Komańcza, Rymanów, Sanok, Zagórz, and Zarszyn, and also has partnerships with communes in France and Slovakia. Within the commune, there are numerous villages, including Bukowsko, Dudyńce, Karlików, and others. The commune continues its cultural traditions and supports the local community through various initiatives.
