Pisz County, located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, was established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform. Its seat is the town of Pisz, which plays a significant role in the region. The county includes the urban-rural municipalities: Biała Piska, Orzysz, Pisz, and Ruciane-Nida. According to data from the end of 2019, the county was inhabited by 56,135 people, and by June 2020, this number had reached 55,952. The county is characterized by a diverse demographic structure, with changes visible over the last two decades – the highest population was recorded in 1999, amounting to 59,778. In the following years, the number of residents gradually decreased, reaching 57,632 in 2004. By the end of September 2019, approximately 1,700 unemployed people were registered in the county, resulting in an unemployment rate of 11.5%. Pisz County borders eight other counties, including Szczytno, Mrągowo, Giżycko, and Ełk, which fosters regional cooperation. The region is known for its beautiful landscapes and rich nature, making it an attractive destination for tourists. In terms of architecture, the county abounds in historical monuments, including churches that often reflect the history of the region and its rich cultural traditions. Local culture is strongly tied to Masurian traditions, which is evident in festivals, crafts, and folk art that are still cultivated by the residents. An interesting fact is that Pisz County is located in one of the most ecologically clean regions of Poland, which further attracts enthusiasts of active recreation and nature tourism.
